'Heavy Metal' (2019)

Heavy Metal was the first instalment of a collaboration between the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts. The collaboration challenged composers and musicians from both Universities to create and produce a performance in one week on the theme of 'heavy metal'.

The final performance was hosted at Eastside Projects, Birmingham, and incorporated the existing installations within the space. The main room held a large monster-mouth stage, whilst the second room was flooded with fluorescent pink lighting and fluffy white carpet. Different performances were cycled throughout the evening at various locations within the gallery.

The picture above captures a piece in which a 'poet' reads offensive heavy metal lyrics in a slam poetry style whilst accompanied by meditative harp music.
